The Israeli–Palestinian conflict
Israel
Zionism, a jewish nationalist group, grew in Europe since the 1800's. After World War I the League of Nations appointed Great Britain to find a homeland from Jew, Britain came up with the Balfour Declaration giving land the the Jews were there ancestors lived. This however was not fully put into effect until after World War II and the Holocaust. Nations felt sympathetic to the Jews so they split the Palestine into two states, a Jewish State and a Arab State with Jerusalem under international control. The Arab leader rejects this proposition however it was still done. David Ben-Gurion became the first prime minister and declared Israel on May 14, 1948.
The First Arab-Israeli War
This war was in response to the creation of Israel and lasted from May to December 1948. Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Transjordan, and Iraq invaded Israel taking control of areas that would become part of the Israeli state. The effects of the war was that Egypt took the Gaza Strip, Transjordan took the West of the Jordan River and the amount of Palestine refugees were great, about 700,000 people. Israel won the war with many powerful countries such as Britain and the U.S. having their back allowing Israel to be recognized.
Arab-Israeli Conflict
These conflicts started in 1948 with the Arab-Israeli and continued until the early 1970's. One conflict was in 1967 when Egypt demanded that the United Kingdom leave the Middle East. Egypt started to move its troops to close off the gulf of Aqaba. This Gulf was Israel's route to the red sea and trade. This movement lead to the six day war were Israel was the first to attack the Egyptian troops leading to a rapid victory over them. Israel gained the Golan Heights, Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
In 1973 Egypt want these regions back from Israel so they planned a surprise attack on Israel during their Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur, this then became known as the Yom Kipper War. Israel lead by Golda Meir was not ready to defend itself and needed support from its allies. The Yom Kipper war ended in a stalemate and both sides decided to cease-fire.

Camp David Accords
A couples years after the conflicts between Egypt, Israel, and other Arabic countries, Egypt wanted to make a treaty with Israel to stop all the violence. So in Maryland, President Jimmy Carter from the United States supervised while President Anwar Sadat from Egypt and Prime Minister Menachem Begin from Israel agreed and signed the Camp David Accords. This treaty call for that Egypt would recognized Israel as a country and Israel would return the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt.
Palestinian Unrest
In 1947 when the Jewish homeland was made, Israel, there was suppose to be two states, a Jewish state and an Arab state. After the Arab-Israeli War in 1948 the Arab state was occupied mainly by Israel, Egypt, and Jordan. So the Palestinians created the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and pleaded that Israel to not be made a country. In 1969 Yasser Araft became he leader of the PLO and launched guerrilla attacks on Israel. After Israel invaded Lebanon in 1978 and 1982 there was a large amount of street violence and the Intifada began. Intifada is wide spread street violence, the Israeli police resistance worked and stopped some of the attacks until it would start up again in 2000.
